โš  FLORIDA HEAT SAFETY

This Is a Health Emergency. Treat It Like One.

The National Weather Service considers a heat index at or above 103ยฐF dangerous and 125ยฐF potentially fatal. Crestview summer heat indexes regularly exceed 105ยฐF. A home without AC can reach dangerous indoor temperatures within hours.

MOST COMMON EMERGENCY CALLS

What Usually Causes an Emergency Breakdown

Knowing what failed helps us prepare before we arrive โ€” and helps you understand what to expect.

#1

Capacitor Failure

Capacitors start the compressor and fan motors. Florida heat degrades them fast โ€” most last 5 to 8 years before failing suddenly, usually on the hottest days.

โ†’ Typically repaired same visit. Parts on every truck.

#2

Refrigerant Leak

A system low on refrigerant loses cooling capacity rapidly. Leaks develop at fittings, coil joints, or corroded lines โ€” more common in older systems and coastal environments.

โ†’ Leak location + repair + recharge. Most completed same day.

#3

Contactor Failure

The contactor is the electrical switch that starts the compressor. Worn contacts cause intermittent operation or complete failure โ€” common in systems over 8 years old.

โ†’ Quick replacement. Usually completed same visit.

#4

Frozen Evaporator Coil

A dirty filter, low refrigerant, or blocked airflow causes the coil to ice over. System blows air but produces no cooling. Requires thaw time before repair can begin.

โ†’ Allow 2-3 hours to thaw. We diagnose root cause during thaw.

#5

Compressor Failure

The most serious and expensive failure. Often preceded by warning signs โ€” hard starting, tripped breakers, unusual sounds โ€” that went unaddressed.

โ†’ May require replacement decision. We present options honestly.

AFTER A POWER OUTAGE

Your AC May Not Restart on Its Own

When power is restored after an outage, do not immediately set your thermostat to the lowest possible setting. Follow this protocol.

Power surge damage to HVAC is more common than most homeowners realize. A $15 surge protector on your outdoor unit can prevent a $400 to $2,000 repair.

EMERGENCY HVAC FAQs

Your Emergency Questions Answered

Fast answers when you need information fast.

We work hard to provide same-day service for emergency calls received during business hours Monday through Friday 8AM to 6PM and Saturday 8AM to 12PM. When you call, describe your situation โ€” particularly if there are children, elderly people, or pets in the home โ€” and we will prioritize accordingly. We will give you an honest estimated arrival time when you call 850-362-9256.
Our diagnostic fee and service call rates apply to emergency calls just as they do to scheduled calls during regular business hours. We do not add an emergency surcharge for urgent calls received during our normal business hours. Calls outside of our regular hours may involve different rates โ€” we will be transparent about any applicable charges before committing to an after-hours visit.
Call 850-362-9256 immediately. Focus on protecting the most vulnerable people in your home โ€” move children, elderly family members, and pets to the coolest part of the house. Close blinds on sun-facing windows. Place wet towels or ice packs on pulse points (wrists, neck) for anyone showing signs of heat stress. If anyone shows symptoms of heat stroke โ€” hot dry skin, confusion, loss of consciousness โ€” call 911 immediately. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency.
Any sudden new noise from your AC system deserves immediate attention, especially banging, grinding, or screeching sounds. Banging usually indicates a loose or broken component โ€” running the system risks further damage. Squealing often indicates a bearing failure in the blower or fan motor. Clicking at startup that does not resolve within a few seconds points to a failing capacitor. Turn the system off if the noise is severe and call Just Right โ€” continuing to run a damaged system typically converts a repair into a replacement.
The most common causes are a frozen evaporator coil (switch the thermostat to FAN ONLY for 2 to 3 hours to allow thawing โ€” do not run cooling mode while frozen), a failed capacitor preventing the compressor from starting even though the fan runs, a refrigerant leak that has left the system unable to produce cooling, or a failed compressor. Switch to fan only mode and call Just Right โ€” we will diagnose the root cause.
